Thall Joben

Released: 1985
Source: Star Wars Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO
Accessories: Blaster, coin
Articulation: Neck, shoulders, hips.
Notes: Kenner chose to give Thall Joben an Imperial style blaster, although he never used such a weapon in the TV series. He did, however, uses a lightsaber in the very first episode of Droids.

The Run Down: Thall Joben is a speeder racer from the planet Ingo and is the first new hero character introduced in the Droids series. For many Star Wars fans in the 1980's (myself included), Thall Joben would have been one of the very first Expanded Universe figures to be added to their collections. I still remember seeing Thall and Jann Tosh in the 1985 Sears Canada Christmas Wishbook, the first Droids or Ewoks figures that I ever saw, and then opening them up on Christmas morning. Thall's figure is a decent representation of his cartoon series character as far as 1980's tooling and paint application goes. Kenner decided to make Thall a lot more muscular and bulky than he was actually depicted in Droids, a trend briefly continued when the Star Wars figure line was revived in 1995. One thing that I always wished that Kenner had included with this figure was a lightsaber. As anyone who has seen Droids would know, Thall was the only character to be seen using a lightsaber, so this seems like it was a pretty serious omission. However, the Droids R2-D2 figure does come with a lightsaber, so this kind of makes up for it. Overall, Thall Joben is a must have figure for Droids fans. He epitomizes what Droids was: new characters, new adventures and a blend of the classic Star Wars feel mixed with the 1980's culture that kids saw all around them.
